Delivering for Victoria

We are delivering for Victoria and helping the state thrive. From flagship construction projects to small community works, we’re supporting thousands of projects that benefit communities, create jobs and support local businesses.

Delivered in partnership with local councils and other partners, here are just some of the programs that the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions leads that are helping our state thrive:

Building Works Package

This $2.7 billion Building Works Package aims to build the projects that matter to Victoria, and create the jobs that matter to Victorians. The locally-focused program provides immediate benefit to communities across the state in metropolitan, suburban, rural and regional Victoria.

Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program

The Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program supports Victoria’s economy by working with Local Government Authorities, Alpine Resort Boards and sporting organisations to fast-track shovel-ready community sports infrastructure projects across Victoria.

Connecting Victoria

The $550 million Connecting Victoria program is fast-tracking better mobile coverage and broadband across the state to create more jobs, boost local businesses and connect more Victorians to loved ones. The program will get more Victorian businesses access to business-grade broadband and will improve 4G and expand 5G mobile coverage.

Growing Suburbs Fund

The Growing Suburbs Fund is a $375 million investment over seven years, delivering critical local community infrastructure for Melbourne’s diverse and fast-growing outer suburbs.

Living Libraries Infrastructure Program

Delivered through Victorian councils and regional library corporations, the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program makes sure communities get the library facilities they need, supporting libraries’ important role in strengthening communities and providing opportunities for local participation.

Local Sports Grants

The $175 million Local Sports Grants initiative aims to deliver new and improved local community sports infrastructure throughout Victoria, increasing participation opportunities and improving accessibility for all members of our communities.

Metropolitan Partnerships

Metropolitan Partnerships are a coordinated way for communities to advise us on what matters in their region. There are six metropolitan regions within Melbourne – Inner Metro, Inner South-east, Western, Northern, Eastern and Southern. Within these regions we work with local government, industry and community leaders to develop long-term plans to attract investment, create jobs, and improve liveability and community resilience.

Neighbourhood Activity Centre Renewal Fund

The $3 million Neighbourhood Activity Centre Renewal Fund provides grants of up to $100,000 for projects such as pop-up parks, footpath and bike path upgrades and public art. The fund is delivered in partnership with local council, businesses and the community sector in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire.

Regional Creative Infrastructure Program

The Regional Creative Infrastructure Program was funded by the 2020-21 State Budget to support projects that help Victorians access quality creative experiences in their regional communities. Examples of projects include new and upgraded galleries, performance spaces and other creative venue upgrades.

Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund

The Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund is our flagship fund for regional development and helps businesses create jobs in regional Victoria, supports community projects and backs councils to build the infrastructure that locals and visitors need. Since 2015 we have committed almost $700 million through this fund which has supported the creation and retention of around 11,000 jobs.

Regional Partnerships

We established Regional Partnerships in 2016 to recognise that local communities are best placed to understand the challenges and opportunities their regions face. There are nine regional partnerships in Victoria. Within these regions we work with local councils, industry and community leaders to develop long-term plans to attract investment, create jobs, and improve liveability and community resilience.

Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund

The $103 million Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund helps to grow and realise the potential of regional Victoria’s visitor economy. Its projects help increase visitation and create new jobs in the regional tourism sector.

Regional Rail Connectivity Project

The $18 million Regional Rail Connectivity project has better connected passengers on the Traralgon, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Seymour rail lines. Victoria's entire VLocity train fleet is now fitted with mobile signal boosters, and the Department worked with Telstra, Vodafone and Optus to also deliver 35 new mobile towers.

Suburban Revitalisation Program

The Suburban Revitalisation Program is a coordinated partnership between the state government, local government, industry and community focused on driving social and economic outcomes in specific suburban activity centres. It supports projects across 48 sites in metropolitan Melbourne areas. This includes eight multi-project revitalisation sites, seven large single project sites including three 20-Minute Neighbourhood pilot sites, and 33 Neighbourhood Activity Centre Renewal Fund projects.

Victorian Mobile Project

Through the Victorian Mobile Project we have invested $56 million since 2014 to improve mobile coverage across Victoria. This project has upgraded mobile coverage in more than 200 places, and improved safety by enabling more people to contact emergency services in more locations. This website displays places connected since 2018.

Visitor Economy Recovery and Reform Plan

The Visitor Economy Recovery and Reform Plan’s aim is to achieve $35 billion in annual visitor expenditure supporting 300,000 jobs by June 2024. The plan covers the whole state and is underpinned by a $633 million investment.
